Drawdown

Drawdown is the peak-to-trough decline in portfolio value. A 20% drawdown means the portfolio fell 20% from its high. Recovery time matters. Larger drawdowns test investor discipline.

Example

Portfolio peaks at $100k, falls to $80k = 20% drawdown.
